AC Milan are looking to make a star signing in the January mercato involving out-of-favour Manchester United star, Marcus Rashford.
It is difficult to assess a potential move for Rashford because it will only go one of two ways. Either Milan will get a world-beater, or the Rossoneri will spend fortunes on the player that has struggled to refind that player.
Football, after all, is about balancing risk and reward, but it seems that the club believe that the opportunity presented to them is far too great to not consider strongly.
Yesterday, an exploratory meeting took place with the Englishman’s agent Dwaine Maynard and today, discussions between the brothers will take place as they attempt to determine what Marcus’ path forward looks like.
For Milan, the picture is clear. As Gazzetta dello Sport write, the club ‘believe’ in the winger, and think he could be the ‘complete package’ if they can bring him to the club in the January mercato – he is the first choice for a big reinforcement in the current mercato.
At present, the big obstacle is the financials of a deal. It seems Samuel Chukwueze could be sold to free up a space for the Englishman, but the issue of Rashford’s wage remains. At Manchester United, he earns around €20 million gross per season, which the Rossoneri could not match.
Instead, the club could offer €3m for six months, which is a clear drop on his wages, but it is not impossible that he says no. After all, if the project impresses him, then it could be worth the hit.
The clubs also must consider the future, and whilst a loan with a buy clause may add complications if the winger launches himself, then it may be worth taking a hit.
