Milan captain Mike Maignan gave a brief speech to the team in the middle of the pitch after Samuel Mbangula’s opening goal for Juventus, but it didn’t produce the desired result.
Milan players gathered near the centre circle at the Allianz Stadium in Turin on Saturday after Mbangula had given Juventus the lead at minute 59.
Their goalkeeper and captain, Maignan, addressed the team with a brief but resolute speech, hoping to see a reaction from his teammates.
Milan’s unusual reaction to Juventus’ opening goal
It was quite an unusual reaction, given that all the players gathered in the middle of the park, kept their heads down, and listened to their captain, almost like a pre-match speech inside the dressing room.
According to DAZN, Maignan reproached Rafael Leao for being too soft on Weston McKennie in the build-up to Juventus’ goal.
Nevertheless, Maignan’s speech didn’t produce the desired result as Milan conceded the second goal on a counter-attack just five minutes later.
