At this stage, Real Madrid could probably use the addition of another striker. Los Blancos have a significant hole up top since Karim Benzema left at the end of the previous campaign, and their roster is devoid of anyone who can fill it. Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo played as a pair in Carlo Ancelotti’s 4-4-2 system throughout the preseason. But at best, the outcomes have been inconsistent.
Real Madrid have signed Joselu on a loan deal from Espanyol till the end of the season. But that simply is not enough to fill Benzema’s absence.
One of the many strikers that Real Madrid have been linked with in recent months is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international is one of the most highly-rated young centre-forwards in the game right now.
Considering Real Madrid’s recent record of signing youngsters, it is not hard to see why they might have their eyes on Hojlund. But the player is going to end up at Manchester United instead.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Hojlund has signed his five-year contract with an option for a further year as a new Manchester United player. The deal is done and sealed.
Manchester United are believed to be shelling out an €85 million transfer package in order to sign Hojlund. It is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would have gone anywhere close to that figure.
Hojlund is an extremely talented young striker but he is not proven at the top level yet. His numbers for Atalanta were nothing extraordinary last season. Thus, Manchester United are taking a major risk by signing him for that kind of a fee.
On the other hand, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid will sign a striker this summer. The only player they are being linked with right now is Kylian Mbappe.
