Milan are the greatest team in Italy – according to Bondo

Warren Bondo has made an early attempt to endear himself to fans by stating that AC Milan are the ‘greatest team in Italy’.

Deadline day was hectic for Milan, and this was largely as a result of Ismael Bennacer’s attempt at forcing through a move to Olympique Marseille, which he was eventually successful in doing.

It means that the Rossoneri directors had to go looking for a replacement at short notice and thankfully Adriano Galliani was willing to negotiate over Bondo, who had been targeted previously in 2021.

In the end the Frenchman arrived on a permanent deal for around €10m plus bonuses as per multiple sources, signing a contract until 2029. He is currently recovering from injury but should be back in 7-10 days.

Our in-depth player profile on Bondo has some insight on what he can bring, while he spoke at a press conference yesterday alongside Riccardo Sottil but was also interviewed by Mediaset too, with his comments relayed by MilanNews.

Is Milan your big chance?

“I’m happy, for me it’s a great team: I’m happy.”

It was a lightning deal, how did you experience it?

“For me it was a day where I stayed in Monza calmly but at 6pm Moncada called my uncle, saying that Milan had made an offer to Monza.

“There were 4 or 5 hours in which I was stressed and it was not clear whether it would happen or not. When it was done, Dr. Galliani called my dad and said yes.”

Is there this magic of novelty?

“The players who are already here are strong: Maignan, Theo, Fofana, Rafa, Tomori. I will do everything to help the team.”

Can you be Fofana’s deputy?

“Yes, I can play as a playmaker, as a midfielder: I’m here to help the team, to play with him or as his substitute.”

Is faith important to you?

“I am very, very religious and so is my family: for me if I am here it is thanks to God.”

Playing with Rafael Leao, Joao Felix and having Zlatan Ibrahimovic there, what emotions do you feel?

“Strong, playing with a team with strong players. For me, Milan are the greatest team in Italy.”

How are you physically?

“I had a small injury two weeks ago, let’s see with the doctor if I can play next week.”
