Brad Stevens has been with the Boston Celtics since 2013. He spent eight seasons as the franchise’s head coach, accumulating a 354-282 regular-season record. He also won 38 of his 70 postseason games.
Since 2021, Stevens has overseen the Celtics organization from a front-office role. He replaced Danny Ainge as Boston’s president of basketball operations. Stevens constructed the roster that won the 2024 NBA championship.
However, despite his success with the Celtics and his current role, the Indiana native consistently finds his name linked with Indiana University whenever they have a vacant head-coaching position.
According to Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, Stevens has no intentions of returning to the collegiate ranks.
Stevens is widely viewed as an elite basketball mind. He’s still cited as a top-level basketball coach and is young enough to return to the sidelines if he ever decides to get back into the thick of things. However, Celtics fans will undoubtedly be pleased that Stevens will be sticking around for the long haul.
Boston’s impending sale, coupled with its current financial restrictions due to the second apron, needs a high-level basketball mind to ensure the team remains competitive. Stevens has built something special with the Celtics. He deserves to see things through until he decides it’s time to explore new opportunities.
Until then, Celtics fans will undoubtedly welcome his presence in Boston, especially if he continues to build a winning culture throughout the organization.
