Mauricio Pochettino will be assessing a number of Chelsea stars’ fitness in the build up to their Premier League opener against Liverpool. The Blues suffered a worrying injury scare in their recent friendly against Borussia Dortmund with Christopher Nkunku withdrawn after just 22 minutes due to a knee injury.
After the 1-1 draw Pochettino provided a hopeful update, but reports have since confirmed that he will miss the game against Liverpool. Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill, Angelo Gabriel and Lewis Hall were all absent from the previous friendly against Newcastle, however the central defensive duo were back for the clash with Dortmund, while the latter pair are expected to depart the club on loan.
Noni Madueke could face a race against time to be included in the matchday squad, while the fitness of Reece James has been questioned throughout pre-season with Malo Gusto often getting the nod at right-back, however he played 73 minutes against the German outfit.
So, with that being said, Soccerhuz.com has taken a look at the latest updates from the treatment room ahead of the Chelsea taking on Liverpool this weekend.
Christopher Nkunku
Christopher Nkunku was withdrawn in the first half of Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Borussia Dortmund because of a knee injury with the France international set to miss the Premier League opener against Liverpool. An initial assessment showed good signs that Nkunku would only miss a few weeks, however rumours have since began circulating that he will instead be out for a few months.
