It’s clear Luka Dončić isn’t set on staying with the Los Angeles Lakers, and that the Lakers’ top priority is to re-sign him. However, people are thinking that he may leave the Lakers for new pastures. Fansided’s Elijah Hamilton predicted that the superstar would sign with the Minnesota Timberwolves and form a superstar duo with Anthony Edwards.
“A season after falling to Luka Dončić and the Mavericks in the 2024 Western Conference, the Timberwolves can do the unimaginable by pulling him away from the Lakers,” Hamilton wrote. “They took a massive step back this season, failing to meet expectations as a championship contender squad. Still, they have a top player in the league, Anthony Edwards, which could make them an attractive destination for Dončić.”
Hamilton continued, emphasizing the fact the T-Wolves were one of the teams to reach out to Dončić’s former team, the Dallas Mavericks, when their GM Nico Harrison put him up for sale.
“The Wolves are reportedly one of the two teams that Mavs GM Nico Harrison had reached out to regarding a potential Dončić trade,” Hamilton stated. “The Wolves cleared up cap space in the offseason by trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Knicks and they could swing for the fences.”
Dončić and Edwards would be a nasty duo, as Dončić’s playmaking and scoring combined with Edwards’ athletic ability and scoring would be almost unstoppable. It would also give them the ability to always have one of them go off on any night.
If the Timberwolves can get him, they definitely should. Then they would be able to stand up against the mighty Oklahoma City Thunder, who currently rule the West.
