AC Milan are beginning to think about Theo Hernandez’s potential replacement, and they have reportedly begun discussions over one of their top targets.
There have been widespread reports over the past few days – including our own exclusive update – about Theo potentially leaving Milan in the summer. In addition to having a poor season form-wise, his deal runs out in 2026 meaning a natural crossroads has approached.
According to what is being reported by this morning’s edition of Tuttosport, Milan have stepped up their interest in Maxim De Cuyper, knowing that they might well need to sign a new starting left-back for next season.
There has been a meeting between the player’s agent and the Rossoneri directors at Casa Milan too. The idea of De Cuyper’s entourage is to facilitate the move to a top club in the summer, with Arsenal also in the running given Kieran Tierney’s probably departure.
There could be an international auction, with Juventus and Atalanta also keen, but at the moment Milan are described as being in pole position. Club Brugge want €25m to sell the Belgium international, but the Charles De Ketelaere deal shows that negotiations can have a positive ending.
Turning to Theo’s situation, the Diavolo seem ready to sell him in the summer but the issue becomes who will come in with the right amount to let him go. Como offered €47m in January as per the paper, but the Frenchman was not interested.
