Breaking news: How many points per game Milan need for Champions League qualification

Milan remain in the Coppa Italia, but their sole priority for the rest of the 2024-25 is to finish the Serie A season in the top four, which will guarantee qualification for the next edition of the Champions League.

Here is what the Rossoneri might need to secure their spot in Europe’s top competition.

Milan have ground to make up in their push for a top four finish in Serie A.

The team currently sit in seventh place in the Serie A table with 41 points from 25 matches, although they have a game in hand against Bologna on Thursday, and a victory against the Rossoblu will push Sergio Conceicao’s side above Fiorentina and into sixth.

The Rossoneri are currently averaging a total of 1.64 points per game in Serie A, which will need to improve if they are to finish in the top four this season.

La Gazzetta dello Sport predict that it will take a minimum of 70 points to finish in the Champions League positions last season. Atalanta claimed fourth place with 69 points last season, while Milan and Juventus both finished in fourth place on 70 points exactly in 2022-23 and 2021-22 respectively.

If the 70 points remains the benchmark for Champions League qualification, then Milan will need an average of 2.23 points per game from their remaining 13 league matches of the 2024-25 campaign.

2.23 points per game for their remaining 13 Serie A games of the season would give Milan 29 total points, which, when added to the 41 they already have, gets them to the all-important 70 mark.
