AC Milan and Inter have not yet presented their proposal to the City Council for the purchase of San Siro, and it is because of a disagreement between the clubs.
According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress) this morning, Mayor Giuseppe Sala was expecting the dossier of over 200 pages – containing the proposal of Milan and Inter for the acquisition of San Siro and the surrounding areas – on Tuesday.
As of today, Thursday 6 March, nothing has arrived at the Palazzo Marino (City Hall). The mayor injected a bit of urgency during an interview in which he stated that the aim is to complete a sale by the summer.
Echoing Giuseppe Marotta’s words in the pre-match of Feyenoord-Inter, nothing will be sent in the next few days, also because the lawyers of RedBird Capital and Oaktree Capital – the owners of Milan and Inter – are said to be discussing a divisive clause.
What kind of clause is it? It concerns the possibility that one of the two clubs backs out during the progress of the project. An agreement must be found on the wording, whether to establish only the general principle or specify the various options.
Inter want to avoid Milan pulling out of the process knowing they also have the San Donato idea on the table, while the Rossoneri are not willing to budge much because they would have to abandon the San Donato hypothesis and could be left with nothing.
The complication should in any case be resolved within a reasonable time frame and a compromise should be found. In the meantime, there is a natural deadline: in Autumn the second tiers will turn 70 and – if San Siro were to remain the property of the Council – it would be subject to greater constraints.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport there are two other issues to be resolved. The first concerns the possible change of ownership of one of the two clubs during the works, the second concerns the intellectual property of the project for the new San Siro stadium.
