Report: Piatek reveals details on failed Real Madrid move and why Maldini got

Krzysztof Piatek joined AC Milan and seemed destined for greatness – a true goalscorer with a trademark celebration as he burst onto the scene. However, things did not turn out how one may have hoped.

In fact, it could not be further from the truth. Piatek arrived as one of Milan’s most expensive signings in a January mercato, and the initial start was fantastic. However, things slowed quickly.

The weight of being the Rossoneri’s starlet became too much, and the gem became a struggling forward – a trend which continued after his exit. However, the club did not lose too much money on the Polish man, selling him to Hertha Berlin for €24 million.

Speaking to Meczyki.pl, Piatek revealed some of the details about a potential move to Real Madrid, and Milan Press have relayed his words.

“Now I can reveal the details. There was a situation where, if I continued to score at AC Milan for the second year, Real Madrid would go for me or Luka Jovic,” he said.

“I know that scouts were watching me and gathering information about me at AC Milan. I had a meeting with the directors, Leonardo and Maldini. They were a bit angry with me that my entourage was trying to talk to Real and raise the issue.

They thought it was inappropriate because I was already playing at a big club like Milan. I pulled out because I didn’t know anything about it. I knew there was some interest, but it was a proverbial 50/50: either they want me or they don’t.”

It’s rather funny how Milan ended up then signing Jovic ahead of last season on an initial one-year deal, and he did enough to impress and get the No.9 shirt as Piatek did. Since then, though, the contribution has also been very little.
