Sport news: NBA Offseason Rumors Los Angeles Lakers could sign 7-foot-1 Boston Celtics center to bolster squad around Luka-LeBron duo

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly considering a move for Boston Celtics’ backup center Luke Kornet in the upcoming offseason to address their frontcourt needs. After trading Anthony Davis for Luka Doncic, the Lakers lack depth in the paint, and Kornet could be a cost-effective solution.

Luke Kornet, a 7’1″ big man, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Coming off an NBA championship with the Celtics, he could seek a larger contract elsewhere. The Lakers, in need of a reliable backup center, may offer him that opportunity.

Potential alternatives include:

– Myles Turner (Indiana Pacers) – Elite shot-blocker and floor-spacer

– Nikola Vucevic (Chicago Bulls) – Skilled scorer and rebounder

– Mark Williams (Charlotte Hornets) – Young, athletic rim protector

However, acquiring these players may require significant trade assets, making Kornet a more straightforward signing.

His ability to finish lobs and defend the rim complements their playmaking. As Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report noted: “While Al Horford will turn 39 in June, he’s likely to be back with the Celtics. Can the same be said of Luke Kornet? The backup center is turning 30 this summer. This may be the best time to turn his productive years in Boston into a contract larger than a minimum somewhere else.”

Kornet’s experience in a winning system and his low-maintenance role could make him an ideal addition for a Lakers team chasing another title.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ front office, led by Rob Pelinka, will likely weigh multiple options. If high-profile centers like Turner or Vucevic are unavailable, Kornet presents a solid fallback plan. His affordability and skill set could make him a key piece in the Lakers’ 2025-26 championship pursuit.

With Doncic and LeBron leading the charge, adding a reliable big guy like Kornet could be the final piece needed to contend in a loaded Western Conference.
