Liverpool fans were on the verge of meltdown after it emerged Chelsea are reportedly nearing the signings of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Both the Reds and the Blues have been in the market for a new defensive midfielder this summer – with the former making Lavia their priority and the latter focusing on Caicedo.
Both transfer sagas took major twists this week with the Premier League rivals bidding for each other’s No. 1 targets. Caicedo, 21, made it clear he only wants to head to Stamford Bridge, though.
According to Fabrizio Romano late on Sunday (August 13) night, his £115m move has been agreed and he’ll sign an eight-year deal with the option of extending it until 2032.
And soon after that news broke, the Daily Mail claimed Lavia is also set to join Chelsea from Southampton for £55m, with Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri adding the 19-year-old arrived in London over the weekend and celebrated the move with friends.
The double transfer blow left understandably left Liverpool supporters in despair, with one questioning: “How have we let Lavia and Caicedo slip? #FSGOUT Club is a shambles behind the scenes.”
Where do Liverpool turn to now? Let us know in the comments section.
A second bemoaned: “Both Lavia and Caicedo gone in 10 minutes.” While a third commented: “No Caicedo and no Lavia, embarrassing we are.”
“I couldn’t care less about Caicedo. But if Liverpool lose both him and Lavia to Chelsea, it’s a PR disaster for FSG,” argued a fourth, and a fifth sarcastically quipped: “Caicedo and Lavia gone but at least Thiago is back for his annual three games and a half.”
Hours earlier Chelsea had played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool in their first outings of the new Premier League season, with both Mauricio Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp remaining coy when asked about Caicedo by Sky Sports post-match.
