Longo: Conceicao ‘will pay’ for delay as…see more

AC Milan secured a big win against Udinese last night and while it allowed the fans to smile for once, that smile quickly turned into regret, as highlighted by Daniele Longo.

Scoring two goals in each half, the Rossoneri comfortably brought back all three points from Udine to Milano. While the start of the game was a close affair, the Rossoneri comfortably took over after the first goal and showed their true quality, after a very poor season overall.

In his article for Calciomercato.com this morning, Daniele Longo highlighted just how impressive the win won, though it also inevitably has increased the regret. If Sergio Conceicao had adapted from the start, the situation could have been a lot better by now.

“Milan kept a clean sheet after 9 games, with Pavlovic finally convincing as a centre-back to the left, after a few too many runs forward as a centre-back. He convinced us by playing, above all, on the counter-attacks.

“The enthusiasm for the four goals scored, however, immediately turned into regret for what could have been and wasn’t. Milan have important technical values for a comfortable Champions League position with peaks even for the Scudetto.

“Sergio Conceicao found the key two months late because he wasn’t able to immediately read the characteristics and difficulties of a technically very good but at the same time mentally fragile group.

“The Portuguese coach will pay for this delay with his farewell at the end of the season because, probably, he didn’t work as much as he could on the players’ minds.

“He had to adapt and improve but instead, for two months, he demanded that the team adapt to him and his harsh rules,” he writes.

The only hope left for Milan is to win the Coppa Italia, which would restore some pride, but the Champions League exit and the fact they won’t qualify for the next edition (most likely) is a tough pill to swallow indeed.
