Nico Harrison would be so much better off if he didn’t have to talk to reporters, because every time he does, he finds a way to make things worse in the wake of his decision to trade Luka Dončić. Which is hard to do considering he hasn’t done much talking.
After holding a session with a select few reporters last week where his best justification of the trade was to repeatedly say “defense wins championships,” he told reporters Monday at an end-of-season presser that he didn’t realize just how important Dončić was to Dallas Mavericks fans.
“I did know Luka was important to the fanbase. I didn’t quite know to what level,” Harrison said.

Nico Harrison when asked about the outrage from Mavs fans.
Listen, I don’t encourage lying, but sometimes it’s the best option and this was one of those cases. With the heat Harrison is already under from fans — who frequently broke out “fire Nico” chants at Mavs game — he simply didn’t need to admit this.
