The Los Angeles Lakers dropped another game in their first-round playoff series against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The series that moved to Target Center on Friday now has the Timberwolves ahead with a 2-1 lead after the 116-104 win.
LeBron James’ 38 points and 10 rebounds weren’t enough to beat Minnesota. The Timberwolves responded with two remarkable performances from Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels. The former led Minnesota with 30 points while Edwards contributed 29 to reclaim the series lead.
The guard and power forward put on a show and worried Lakers fans, as the team could go back home down 3-1 if they lose the next game.
Right after the game was over, Baltimore Ravens star Kyle Hamilton sent a message to offer a solution to the Edwards problem. The star safety took to X and posted an old picture of himself guarding a younger Edwards with a message to offer his services to the 17-time NBA champions.
“I’m here if y’all need me [Lakers],” Hamilton wrote.
Although this post was a joke, Hamilton was convinced he could have pursued an NBA career if he picked the association over the NFL. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec reported in October 2024 that Hamilton even competed against Edwards and the newly-crowned Defensive Player of the Year, Evan Mobley.
“If the NFL didn’t work out, Hamilton believed the NBA would. His father, Derrek, was drafted by the then-New Jersey Nets in the third round in 1988. He played overseas for well over a decade (Kyle was born in Greece). Kyle’s brother, Tyler, played college basketball at the University of Pennsylvania and William & Mary. Kyle and Tyler were in the gym most days by 6 a.m. getting up shots before school. Kyle competed against future NBA stars Anthony Edwards and Evan Mobley when he was younger, and he still believes he could have made the NBA if he committed to it at an earlier age.”
While Hamilton won’t be joining the Lakers, it’s pretty clear that they have neds to address this offseason, starting from a center who can go up against the strongest bigs in the NBA.
