Luka Doncic spent the first six and a half seasons of his NBA career with the Dallas Mavericks and didn’t have any intention of going elsewhere. Doncic had hoped to spend his entire career in Dallas, Texas, but unfortunately for him, it wasn’t to be.
The Mavericks traded Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in February 2025, and it was a tough pill to swallow. The Slovenian had not seen it coming, and it took him time to get over the disappointment of being shipped out of town.

Doncic appears to have put that behind him now and is thriving for the Lakers. He has quickly become a fan favorite in Los Angeles and is hoping to lead the franchise to glory in his first season itself.
Despite struggling in Game 3 against the Minnesota Timberwolves, Doncic is averaging 28.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.0 steals and 0.7 blocks per game in his first-ever playoff series with the Lakers. He has lived up to the hype, and Lakers fans can expect to see him dominate for their team in the years to come.
Doncic made it clear during an interview with ESPN’s Malika Andrews that he wants to be with the Lakers for the rest of his career. The five-time All-Star has also now declared that he isn’t ever going to live in Texas again.
Doncic appeared on the latest episode of “Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley,” where he was asked if he’d ever move back to Texas after he retires. He was even given Houston as an option, but the answer was a firm no.
It’s not too surprising that Doncic isn’t interested in going back to the place that was once home. He has a new one now and is more than happy there.
Doncic will be in action next when the Lakers take on the Timberwolves in Game 4 at the Target Center on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
