Liverpool’s journey in the 2023/24 Europa League is slowly taking form as teams continue to qualify for the tournament.
With half of the 32 group stage spots already filled, there are still 16 places up for grabs before the action kicks off next month. The final qualification round will determine the ten additional teams that will progress, with the remaining six coming from the losers of the final Champions League play-off round.
Liverpool, along with Brighton, secured its place in this season’s Europa League based on its performance in the Premier League last term, having finished fifth. West Ham United also joined them after winning the Conference League in June.
The other teams teams that are guaranteed a place in the group stages are: Atalanta, AS Roma, Freiburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Marseille, Rennes, Toulouse, Real Betis, Villarreal, Sporting, Servette, Sturm Graz, and TSC Bačka Topola.
Of those, four teams recently entered the Europa League after losing in their Champions League third qualifying round games, reports the Liverpool ECHO. Marseille, Servette, TSC, and Sturm Graz all saw their Champions League hopes dashed on Tuesday evening.
Liverpool already knows it will be in Pot 1 for the group stage draw, alongside Roma, Villarreal, Bayer Leverkusen, Atalanta, and West Ham. Real Betis is set to be placed in Pot 2, while TSC and Servette will find themselves in Pot 4.
The remaining pots will be determined once all 32 qualifying teams are confirmed. Jürgen Klopp could create history in the Europa League this season as he will have lifted every trophy possible at Liverpool if he wins the competition.
Klopp has previously reached the final with Liverpool in 2016. Daniel Sturridge opened the scoring, but the Reds were reeled in by perennial Europa League champion Sevilla.
