MN: Milan not giving up on new era with D’Amico and Sarri…see more

AC Milan are not giving up on hiring Tony D’Amico as their next sporting director despite Atalanta’s resistance, a report claims.

Today’s edition of Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) begins a report by recalling the words of Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi: “D’Amico will remain at Atalanta . He will have the task of creating a team that is still competitive.”

The Nerazzurri sporting director has long been in the sights of Milan and especially of CEO Giorgio Furlani, who immediately put him at the top of the list of candidates for the role of the club’s new sporting director.

Beyond what Percassi said, the issue is ‘not over at all’. The relationship between Atalanta and Milan is excellent, over the years there has been a lot of business between the two clubs, so it is not at all to be excluded that an agreement could be found once the season is over.

Until then though Atalanta – who are still playing for a place in the next Champions League – do not intend to talk about the matter. Furlani is has put Igli Tare on hold and who, unlike D’Amico, is free and therefore could start working for Milan right away.

After the sporting director, the new coach will also have to be chosen, given that Sergio Conceiçao’s chances of remaining are very low even if he were to win the Coppa Italia. If D’Amico were to arrive, Maurizio Sarri’s chances of arriving would increase significantly.

Back in December, the former Lazio coach was sounded out by the Rossoneri when it came to choosing a replacement for Paulo Fonseca who was sacked, but he refused just six months of his contract.

Those close to him however assure that – in the event of a new call, with at least a two-year agreement – he would immediately say yes to the Rossoneri. First there is the sporting director to be closed, then they can also think about the manager.
