Mike Maignan wants to renew his contract with AC Milan, but the management already have a target in mind in the event of no agreement.
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews), Maignan expects new talks with the directors soon to resolve the renewal issue. In the last discussion between parties, a basic agreement on the salary had been reached, but a dip in form forced CEO Giorgio Furlani to pause and reflect.
Maignan’s entourage are anxiously awaiting a signal from Casa Milan, also because their client will soon enter the final 12 months of his current deal, which expires in June 2026. A decision will have to be made, especially in view of the summer.
Milan have the option to retain Maignan with a salary that is close to €5m net per season, including bonuses, or they will be forced to sell him so as not to lose him on a free transfer. And there are admirers abroad, especially from the Premier League.
The Frenchman’s priority remains Milan: he wants to stay even without the Champions League. In the meantime, Milan have been trying to sound out other goalkeepers in recent weeks to protect themselves in the event of a failed extension.
Marco Carnesecchi of Atalanta is a name that is very popular among the scouts and the directors, but for now no official contacts have been initiated. The 24-year-old established himself as La Dea’s starter last season, and is now regarded as one of the best in the league.
