Breaking news: Theo Hernandez back on Real Madrid radar under Xabi Alonso… see more

With Carlo Ancelotti now in charge of Brazil and Xabi Alonso expected to take over at Real Madrid, the club could reactivate its pursuit of Milan left-back Theo Hernandez.

It was officially confirmed today that Ancelotti is going to start working as the coach of the Brazil national team from the World Cup qualifier with Ecuador on June 5.

Multiple reports are confident that he will be replaced on the Real Madrid bench by Xabi Alonso and that could dictate their transfer strategy.

A deal has already been done to snap up Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool as a free agent for the right-back role, but the Merengues want reinforcements on the left too.

Marca and Calciomercato.com note that Real Madrid had been linked with Theo Hernandez in the past, recognising of course that he played for the club before his €22.8m sale to Milan in 2019.

Now 27, his contract only runs to June 2026 and negotiations for an extension have hit obstacles, so a big offer would certainly be listened to.

Milan are also not going to be in the Champions League next season and a sale at a strong profit could bolster their financial status
