Ismael Bennacer made his feelings known in January when he left AC Milan, and now he could be left red-faced.
In the summer window, Bennacer was seemingly on the way out of Milan, but no move arrived. Instead, the Algerian played a minimal role in the opening few games before injury struck, as it so often has for him.
So, when he was reportedly going to be fit again in January, the club were viewing him as a new signing. However, the mercato ended with him leaving, just as he had wanted to six months prior to then.
Marseille was his destination, as it should have been in the previous window, and instantly, he hit the ground running. However, as L’Equipe (via Pianeta Milan) reports, in the past 12 games in Ligue 1, the midfielder has not played as much, seeing only 650 minutes.
So, the club are having doubts about making a permanent move for the midfielder, even if they have the funds to do so, thanks to their Champions League qualification. Instead, the issue lies in his wage packet, where the club are reluctant to give him a ‘regular starter’ figure, considering that he is not that.
It remains to be seen whether this will change, but if it doesn’t, he will head back to the Rossoneri.
