The winners of the 2024-25 Serie A MVP awards have been announced following the conclusion of the fight for the league title on Friday night, with Napoli hero Scott McTominay claiming the flagship prize in his first season in Italy.

Napoli have been crowned as the champions of Italy for 2024-25 after a 2-0 victory over Cagliari at the Stadio Maradona on Friday night. Though Inter beat Como 2-0 away from home at the same time, they finished the campaign one point short of the Partenopei.

McTominay, Reijnders and Retegui among Serie A MVP winners

Scotland international McTominay has been announced as the overall Serie A MVP after helping Napoli to their second Scudetto in just three years in his first season since joining from Manchester United.

He chipped in with 12 goals and six assists in Serie A this season, and was presented with his trophy on the pitch at full-time after the 2-0 win over Cagliari on Friday night.

“I’m lost for words, it’s incredible,” he said in a party atmosphere at the Stadio Maradona.

“The sacrifice of every single player in this group is just incredible. The people deserve it, as they’ve been behind us from day one. For me to come here and experience this, it’s just a dream.”

Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar has beaten David De Gea of Fiorentina and Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to claim the best goalkeeper award for 2024-25.

The best defender goes to Italy international Alessandro Bastoni, who saw off competition from compatriot and title-winner Alessandro Buongiorno and Lazio full-back Nuno Tavares.

Despite finishing outside of the European positions in Serie A, Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders, who is in ‘advanced talks’ to join Manchester City this summer, has been named as the Serie A best midfielder. He beat McTominay and Inter’s Nicolo Barella to the prize.

To clarify, the overall Serie A MVP cannot win one of the other position-specific awards, hence why McTominay did not win the best midfielder award, and why 2023-24 MVP winner Lautaro Martinez did not win the best striker award last season.

Another Italy international in Mateo Retegui has claimed the best striker award, possessing a tally of 25 goals and seven assists from 25 outings in the league this season. He beat Fiorentina’s Moise Kean and Riccardo Orsolini of Bologna in an all-Italian top three.

Finally, Como talent Nico Paz has won the 2024-25 award for best U23 player, beating Sebastiano Esposito of Empoli and Kenan Yildiz of Juventus.
