Journalist Alessandro Jacobone has claimed that TIjjani Reijnders would never ask to leave AC Milan, due to his attachment to the club.
It is hard to ignore the growing amount of noise regarding Reijnders, in particular the interest from Manchester City. For example, Sky reported yesterday that the Premier League side are advancing in talks to land the Dutchman, who they want to replace Kevin De Bruyne.
After a season with 15 goals to his name it is predictable that Reijnders might attract some top clubs, even if he did recently renew his deal until 2030 with a pay rise as a reward for his excellent performances.
However, there is also no denying that Milan’s financial situation is worsening. A €25m loss is expected for the 2024-25 financial year, and it could be even worse the following year without any European football in 2025-26.
On his X account, Jacobone has provided some clarity on what the stance of Reijnders himself might be in the event that the interest from City is followed through.
“Let’s start from the fact that Reijnders would never abandon Milan, he chose the red and black team before falling in love with it and giving up the courtship of Barcelona, including the money,” he said.
“If he leaves, it will be only because of the club’s will. The narratives that will be evaluated will be based on what is written in this tweet.
“Tijjani chose Milan twice, renewing two months ago when the season was already compromised. His words, those of the agent to those who operate on the market, the same Milan who boasted of having been chosen despite better offers from Barca.
“The world of football is made of money, but not everyone lives only for it, and Reijnders has already demonstrated it.”
