MN: Roma unable to play ‘Abraham card’ to keep Saelemaekers…see more

Alexis Saelemaekers will return to AC Milan at the end of the season, following the season-long loan at Roma, but he could quickly head back to the capital. However, an agreement might not be super easy to find.

According to today’s edition of Gazzetta dello Sport, one of Igli Tare’s first tasks as the new sporting director of Milan will be to make decisions on the loanees. Saelemaekers, who joined Roma on deadline day last summer, is one of the players in limbo.

Roma would like to keep the winger permanently, as the pink newspaper states, but an agreement must first be reached with the player. Only after that can they initiate negotiations with Milan, which aren’t expected to be super easy either.

Saelemaekers has impressed with the Giallorossi and it’s believed that he has a price tag of €20-25m, which is significantly higher than what Bologna could have bought him for last summer. As such, a counterpart could be included in the negotiations but as per the newspaper, it won’t be Tammy Abraham.

The English striker’s loan at Milan will also expire at the end of the season but due to a high salary, and the recent decline in performances, he’s not expected to remain at the club. This also means that Roma will have to find someone else to offer in exchange (perhaps plus cash).

A return to Milan cannot be ruled out either, as the newspaper concludes, so Saelemaekers’ situation is certainly one to keep an eye on.
