Last night, Simon Kjaer spoke in an interview about the current situation at AC Milan and a possible return to ‘his club’.
Kjaer, in many ways, represents a lot of what Milan have missed this season. Put simply, it is leadership and experience. Alvaro Morata, in fact, arrived to solve the issues of the dressing room. However, he could not be of assistance.
Instead, the Rossoneri had their worst season in years and now will be without Europe next season. Of course, there is a debate to be had about the usability of someone like the Dane. Nevertheless, it can certainly be argued that the club missed ‘a Kjaer’ in the dressing room, with standards often not upheld.
The Dane spoke to TeleLombardia about Milan, the future and this season, and Milan News have relayed his words.
What will your future be?
“Good question, I’m considering many things: now I’ve joined my former club to see how a football club works. I’ve been working there for six months. I don’t know if I’d like to coach or be a manager.
“If there’s one thing that football has taught me, it’s that it doesn’t close any doors on you: if I have to choose, I’m more of a manager than a coach, but I also think that can change; it depends on the project.
“I’m lucky that I have the patience to find a new passion and something that stimulates me. Little by little, I have to find my new world, my new path and right now I’m a very excited dad.”
Would you like to return to Milan one day?
“Yes, why not? Milan has always been my club. When I went to Palermo at 19, I always told the agent that I wanted to go there; then I ended up there and had four and a half fantastic years. Now, no, I want to be a dad. I don’t want to force myself to enter somewhere: if I have to enter a club, in any role, I have to learn a few things.”
Could you ask Ibra for advice?
“Yes, I could ask him and understand what works and what doesn’t. In my career, however, I have to make my own journey and my own experience. Above all, I have to feel in my stomach what I like and what I don’t.”
Do you follow Serie A?
“My son keeps me updated on everything: he’s a Milan fan, but he also supports Como now. The world of football has always been my world, and it will always be my world.”
As an outsider, how did you experience Milan’s season?
“I lived like all the fans, it was a difficult season: this is football. We start again, and Milan must start again. A piece of advice? Difficult, because I don’t know what happened and what is happening, there are too many things to understand before speaking.
“I love everyone who is there: players, Zlatan, Furlani, Moncada, who were close to me and I worked with them… I know that they will try to do the best they can for Milan. Then it didn’t go well, and they found it difficult.
“However, I am 100% convinced that they will do their best to have a good season next year. This year it didn’t go as all the fans would have wanted.”
What do you think about the fans’ protest?
“The fans are always right, they do things for the emotions, and I think nobody can go against the feeling of the fans this season: I understand them absolutely.”
Whose fault is it?
“Everyone is to blame, because everyone is inside the Milan club. To put the percentages, you also have to understand what happened, who made the decisions. I am not a judge: the only thing I want is for Milan to be well.”
Do you keep in touch with your former teammates? Is there any disappointment?
“We’re in touch, they’re my friends. They, like all the fans, have been through a difficult period, and that weighs on them. The fans must understand that it weighs on the players too, they don’t go to training happy and calm. It’s a disappointment for them, too.”
Who would you like to see on the Milan bench?
“I have no idea. That depends on the project, on what type of football you want to play: should Milan play with 3? With 4? That’s too complex a question. You have to understand which players leave and who stays.
“I hope he’s a good coach for Milan. Conte? We can only congratulate him, they’ve done a good job.”
It would be interesting to see if RedBird or the Rossoneri consider bringing back the defender in some manner, certainly.
