The Reds have just 10 days left to make any late window additions to their squad. With a couple of potential holes still gaping, Jurgen Klopp has a bit of work to do.
Liverpool still active in the market
As we approach the final week of the transfer window, there’ll be plenty of Liverpool fans feeling a little nervous.
With a lot of work to do heading into the summer, it doesn’t feel as though the Reds have completed what they needed to.
Two excellent midfielders and a further serviceable one have been brought in. But with some unexpected departures, Liverpool still feel a touch short.
As discussions over Doucoure would suggest, Klopp and co are aware of this.
However, there also doesn’t seem to be any great urgency to get anything boxed off. You get the impression that unless a deal becomes too good to turn down, Liverpool will hold what they have.
Usually when the Reds take this stance in the transfer market, it ends up being the wrong call. They left themselves in the lurch by not signing a midfielder last summer, and did the same with a defender in 2020.
Unfortunately, it appears that lessons from the tough seasons that followed those decisions haven’t been learnt. Still, there’s time for that to change. It doesn’t have to be a big name, but Liverpool could do with doing something.
