The Gunners are set to sign a winger this summer in order to take some heat off Bukayo Saka, who suffered a hamstring injury this season, keeping him out for several months.
They have been linked to several wingers including Nico Williams, Rodrygo, Jamie Gittens and Leroy Sane, however, they might be about to get a boost in their pursuit of AC Milan’s Rafael Leao instead.
Arsenal Sporting Director Andrea Berta reportedly spoke with Leao last month as he is keen to bring the Portuguese international to the Emirates. Leao made 50 appearances for Milan, contributing 12 goals and 13 assists this season.
According to Italian Newspaper Tuttosport, AC Milan are reluctant to sell Leao, especially after appointing Maximiliano Allegri as their new manager. However, they would sell him if they could find a worthy replacement.
One such replacement that they have been linked with is Manchester United winger Alejandro Garnacho, who is set to leave Old Trafford this summer after falling out of favour with Ruben Amorim.
Chelsea and Napoli are also reportedly keen to sign Garnacho this summer, after the 20-year-old scored 10 goals and provided nine assists for Amorim’s side this season.
Amid the reports of AC Milan’s interest in Garnacho, Arsenal have also faced a blow as Bayern Munich are reportedly stepping up their efforts to sign Leao from the Italian club.
According to a fresh report by German outlet, Kicker, Bayern are keen to sign Leao as a replacement for Leroy Sane, who is set to become a free agent, leaving the need for a left-winger at the Allianz Arena.
The report says that AC Milan would ask for around £84m for Leao however, which could be tricky for both Arsenal and Bayern Munich, unless they are tempted with a lower offer instead.
