Manuel Locatelli has revealed that he spoke to Massimiliano Allegri after he found out that he had taken the AC Milan job.
When it comes to Locatelli and Allegri, there is a lot of intertwining with Milan and Juventus. The midfielder began in Milan’s academy and scored his most notable goal against the Bianconeri – a winner in the 2016-17 season – and that was against an Allegri team.
Then, the pair got to work together at Juve, as they bought Locatelli from Sassuolo where he went after leaving Milan. They would win silverware together, before Allegri left following the Coppa Italia victory in 2023-24.
It was announced last Friday afternoon that Allegri is the new coach of Milan. He returns 11 years after his first tenure with the Rossoneri ended, and it was a rather sudden development in the end.
Locatelli gave an interview to La Stampa in which he also spoke about Allegri, who he knew as an opponent first, as a coach second and now as an opponent again. His comments were relayed by MilanPress.
“Allegri? I spoke to him to wish him good luck, I love him and I think he’s a great coach. Having said that, I hope the Rossoneri are behind us!” he said.
