Arsenal’s move for Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga has got a lot of Gunners fans on social media talking.
Kepa had a successful loan spell at Bournemouth last season and is very close to earning himself a switch to the Emirates as a result.
Arsenal are finalising a deal for Kepa, who will join Mikel Arteta’s side to provide competition for David Raya.
Chelsea will still have the likes of Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen to call upon if they are not sold, and Arsenal supporters have now made a big claim about the former.
Sanchez made quite a few mistakes last season, but he was starting to win over some Chelsea fans towards the end of the campaign.
After their final Premier League game against Nottingham Forest, Chelsea supporters took to social media to praise Sanchez. Their Arsenal counterparts, however, think he is an inferior shot-stopper compared to Kepa.
One Arsenal fan has backed the club’s decision to sign Kepa, saying: “Good decision by the board. Kepa is far better than [Andre] Onana and Sanchez combined.”
Another Arsenal supporter claimed it was a “no-brainer”. “Kepa cost less and is still better than most keepers out there even Sanchez and Onana, no-brainer we are signing him.”
Another fan took to X to say: “Funny thing is Kepa is better than Sanchez.”
One Arsenal fan admitted that they are not Kepa’s biggest fan but still prefer him over Sanchez. “Not a massive fan of Kepa, but he’s 100% a better GK than Sanchez.”
Another supporter thinks the 30-year-old is better than both of Chelsea’s two main goalkeepers. They said: “Whisper it quietly but Kepa is better than Sanchez & Jorgensen.”
And another Arsenal fan shared that sentiment, saying: “The ironic thing is that Kepa is more Prem proven than both Sanchez and Jorgensen.”
In terms of ability, Kepa and Sanchez are probably quite close. Both goalkeepers have their strengths and weaknesses, and Chelsea supporters have seen that.
Again, Sanchez made some costly errors last term, but his shot-stopping was very good. Statistically, it was actually the best in the Premier League.
According to FBref, the Chelsea star recorded a save percentage of 76.4%. Kepa’s was 73.9%, which is not bad either, but neither the former Athletic Bilbao man nor any other goalkeeper in the top flight could top Sanchez.
Sanchez may still be sold, though, and replaced by AC Milan’s Mike Maignan, who is being heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
