Hello and welcome to our LIVE Liverpool transfer blog for Thursday, August 24.
Liverpool are reportedly eyeing former Manchester City attacker Leroy Sane as Mohamed Salah’s replacement next season. In the same report from Italy, Juventus’ Federico Chiesa was also mooted.
The Reds are interested in Fluminense midfielder Andre and the Brazilian has broken his silence on the transfer links. Along with that, there have been varying reports that Liverpool will be forced to wait until January to sign him as the Tricolour eye Copa Libertadores glory.
Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has been subject to reported interest from the Reds, meanwhile. And the Moroccan has been left out of the Viola’s squad to face Rapid Vienna in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
Rafael Benitez speaks out about Gabri Veiga shock transfer
Via Fabrizio Romano, former Liverpool boss and current manager of Celta Vigo Rafael Benitez was asked about Gabri Veiga’s impending move to Al Ahli in his press conference today.
This is what he had to say about the former Reds target:
Al Ahli will change Gabri Veiga’s life in positive. It hurts but will also help our club finacially.
Going to Saudi at 20? It’s not just place for old players. I had Carrasco in China, then he returned and he’s playing UCL.”
Ibrahim Sangare offer
Football Insider alledge that Nottingham Forest have tabled a surprise £21.3m loan-to-buy offer for Ibrahim Sangare.
The PSV Eindhoven defensive midfielder, who scored against Rangers in Champions League qualifying on Tuesday, has been lightly linked with Liverpool this summer with Bayern Munich tipped his most likely destination before this latest revelation.
It is stated that any possible deal with the Midlands club hinges on PSV’s Champions League fate.
Matheus Nunes bid rejected
First reported by the Telegraph, Wolves have rejected an opening offer of £47 from Manchester City for former Liverpool target Matheus Nunes.
Piero Hincapie evaluation
Picking up TalkSPORT’s earlier claim of Liverpool interest in Piero Hincapie, German outlet BILD have stated that Bayer Leverkusen would only listen to ‘immoral’ offers for the defender.
They claim that as the Ecuadorian is under contract until 2027 and is such a vital member of Xabi Alonso’s squad, the price would be in the region of £60m.
Gabri Veiga update
The latest update from Fabrizio Romano as Liverpool-linked midfielder Gabri Veiga closes in on a shock transfer to Al Ahli.
Boubacar Kamara claim
‘Liverpool are at a crossroads in their search for a replacement for star midfielder Fabinho’, say Spanish outlet Fichajes,, who claim that Aston Villa’s Boubacar Kamara is the man for the job.
The Frenchman has been linked to the Reds having impressed for Aston Villa since his arrival in England last year.
Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure stance
Crystal Palace are the subject of intense speculation heading into the remaining days of the transfer window with a number of clubs sniffing around their promising young players.
As well as Manchester City links to Eberechi Eze, Liverpool are well-reported to be interested in Cheick Doucoure as a defensive midfield recruit, however the latest claim from Evening Standard serves to strike a blow to the Reds.
They state that the South London club are ‘desperate’ to keep hold of the 23-year-old.
Mats Wieffer linked
Football Transfers claim that Feyenoord midfielder Mats Wieffer is in contact with Liverpool over a potential transfer.
They state that the 23-year-old Dutchman has rejected advances from AC Milan and Lazio but is now open to discussions with the Reds, although at this stage it is unclear as to how far the negotiation process has gone.
Weiffer made 37 appearances for his current club last season utilised mainly as a defensive midfielder, sometimes as a central midfielder and once as a centre back.
Mohamed Salah exit links persist
Heading into the final days of the transfer window those Mohamed Salah exit links just won’t go away.
The latest claim from French outlet Sports Zone is that talks are ‘progressing’ with Al Ittihad, who are optimistic to make it happen this summer.
Ultimately though they state nothing is done, and with little over a week for Liverpool to select a replacement, one should think Jurgen Klopp wants it to stay that way.
Amara Nallo signs
Also signing for the Reds’ youth set-up is 16-year-old Amara Nallo. As revealed by ExWHUemployee, the defender has left West Ham to join Liverpool.
Trey Nyoni signs
Liverpool have completed the signing of 16-year-old England youth international Trey Nyoni from Leicester City.
Gabri Veiga surprise
It shouldn’t be a shock given the number of players that have already committed to the Saudi Pro League project so far this summer, but Gabri Veiga allegedly being on the brink of signing for Al Ahli does somewhat come as a surprise.
Late last Fabrizio Romano reported the Spaniard is subject to an accepted bid from the Gulf state club, giving the ‘here we go’ to the move. He calls the midfielder Al Ahli’s ‘secret top target’.
What seperates Veiga from the others is that he’s only 21, much younger than most of the professionals to have relocated there so far, and is one of the continent’s hottest prospects. That’s why Liverpool along with a host other clubs such as Napoli were heavily linked at different stages of the summer.
Could this be a future trend? And how would the Reds fare competing against the SPL’s riches to attract these young talents?
Leroy Sane and Federico Chiesa eyed as Mohamed Salah replacement
According to Calciomercato, Bayern Munich attacker Leroy Sane is being considered as a replacement for Mohamed Salah.
It has been claimed that the German could be subject to an approach from Liverpool next year, to replace their Egyptian star.
As per the Italian outlet, Federico Chiesa is also a player of interest.
Liverpool target Andre ‘happy’ with offers as midfielder breaks silence
Brazil international Andre admits he is happy to be linked with Liverpool – but insists he mind remains focused on Fluminense at present.
The 22-year-old midfielder emerged as a target for the Reds as they continue a midfield revamp that has already seen the arrivals of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai and Wataru Endu this summer.
Liverpool held initial talks earlier this month with Fluminense over the player, with reports in Brazil suggesting they are preparing an offer of around £25million plus add-ons.
The Brazilian side, though, are adamant they will not allow Andre to leave during the summer transfer window given they remain in the hunt to win the Copa Libertadores – the South American equivalent of the Champions League – for the first time in their history.
And the player is not allowing himself to be distracted despite welcoming the news of offers from Europe, with Fulham having been interested in January and Sporting Lisbon also tracking the player.
“It’s obvious that it’s normal to receive offers,” said Andre, as reported by Brazilian news outlet Globo Esporte. “Even more so with the team doing well, getting through in the Libertadores, and being near the top of the Brasileria (Brazilian championship).
“Not just me, but others must have received offers as well. I am happy about the offers that arrive, but my mind today is focused 100% on Fluminense.”
