Heading into 2025-26 there are some doubts about the right-back role. Emerson Royal does not seem to be a part of the plans, while Alex Jimenez and Alexis Saelemaekers showed themselves to be more natural wing-backs in the second half of last season.
Thus, there have been reports linking Milan with a new starter-level player for the right side of Massimiliano Allegri’s defence. Guela Doue of Strasbourg has been the hottest name, with Fiorentina’s Dodo also mentioned.
Now, Matteo Moretto has thrown a new name into the mix: Vanderson, of Monaco. Speaking on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, he gave the latest on Milan’s interest in the Brazilian.
“It’s just a preference, I want to specify, because maybe people, Milan fans believe that it’s already a negotiation or something advanced. No, absolutely not,” he began.
“It’s a preference because we’re talking about a player that Monaco considers expensive, considers important and values a lot.
And, furthermore, in any case Milan still has to work on that type of department in my opinion to create space, margin, for a new arrival and therefore there should be some exits first.
“But I tell you that one of the names that Milan has looked at and followed for a long time is that of Vanderson, born in 2001 from Monaco, right-back.
“It’s a name that they like a lot but, I repeat, it needs to be understood later if it’s feasible. I believe it’s a name that’s difficult to get, because he costs a lot anyway, but I’ll mention it to you.”
The 23-year-old joined Monaco three years ago, and last season he racked up 41 appearances across all competitions, with two goals and five assists to his name. He was actually linked last year, and responded to the rumours in November.
