Arsenal are set for an unprecedented transfer window.
Arsenal have released twenty players and are also looking for the permanent sales of Fabio Vieira and Reiss Nelson in order to balance their books.
Andrea Berta’s ‘creativity’ with Oleksandr Zinchenko will be key to selling the Ukrainian international and whilst Arsenal’s £200m budget will enable them to sign some targets, outgoings are vital this summer.
Deals for Martin Zubimendi and Kepa Arrizabalaga are wrapped up but Arsenal remain locked in talks over Viktor Gyokeres. It is a deal the club are desperate to seal given the record Gyokeres would bring with him.
Goals were a huge issue for Arsenal last season and despite attempts to sign Ollie Watkins in the January transfer window, the Gunners just didn’t have the firepower to challenge Liverpool.
The number nine has been a position of trouble for Mikel Arteta since he banished Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang back in 2022 but that could be about to change with the signature of Gyokeres.
The Swede will arrive at the Emirates Stadium with the most career goals behind him since the Gunners re-signed Thierry Henry on a short-term loan deal in January 2012.
Henry stands alone with 323 before returning to North London but Gyokeres is way ahead of the likes of Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.
It shows that Arteta wants a striker ready for the here and now. The 27-year-old certainly has the record to fire the Gunners to a trophy.
Speaking on the ‘Stick to Football’ podcast earlier this year, Arsenal legend Henry snubbed Gyokeres when naming his current favourite striker in world football.
Henry is a big fan of Julian Alvarez and explained that he has ‘everything’ a manager would want in a player.
Henry stated: “One of my favourite nines out there at the moment is Julian Alvarez. He can hold the ball long. He played at the Olympic games. He played the Copa America.
“He doesn’t say he’s tired, hopefully nothing bad happens to him, he’s played everything. And the way he plays it, I just like him.”
