Arsenal and Chelsea have been in talks for the transfer of Noni Madueke in recent days.
The Gunners have been linked with superstars like Rodrygo Goes and Nico Williams over the last few months, and fans were excited about the prospect of signing one of them.
However, since reports that Arsenal have agreed a deal to sign Madueke emerged, there has been a bit of frustration among the fan base.
Now, some new information has come to light about what Chelsea tried to do during negotiations, and we’re certain that Arsenal supporters will not be happy with this.
Ethan Nwaneri’s future has been up in the air at Arsenal.
The teenager, hailed as ‘unbelievable‘ by Michael Owen after he became the youngest player in the history of the Premier League, has entered the final year of his contract at the Emirates.
TBR Football exclusively revealed that Arsenal were struggling to tie Nwaneri down to a new deal, and that has caused some serious concerns among the fans.
Now, Fabrizio Romano, in his article on GiveMeSport, has revealed that Chelsea enquired about signing Nwaneri while holding talks with Arsenal over a deal for Madueke.
The Gunners, however, made it clear that they were not going to negotiate.
Romano wrote: “The Blues understood around 10 days ago that the agreement for Ethan Nwaneri’s new deal at the Emirates Stadium was not done yet, due to the player’s camp requesting more guarantees over game time, leading to some explanations being wanted by agents and family ahead of summer signings for Arteta.
“In that moment, sources revealed that Chelsea asked to be informed on Nwaneri’s situation and also suggested a potential discussion in a separate story from Madueke.
“The gap in valuation between the two players was immediately a stumbling block, as Arsenal didn’t want to entertain talks at Chelsea’s valuation, but the Blues suggested they were ready to enter club-to-club conversations for Nwaneri at any moment this summer, in case negotiations with Arsenal were going to collapse.”
Romano further revealed that Arsenal will ‘not be advancing on numbers and details on a deal for Nwaneri as they absolutely want to get a new contract agreed as soon as possible’.
Losing Nwaneri this summer for a fee or for nothing in 12 months’ time would be a disaster for Arsenal.
The 18-year-old is among the best young talents on the planet, and almost everyone who has watched him feels he will become a superstar in the coming years.
Arsenal are desperate to extend Nwaneri’s contract, and Romano has revealed that the Gunners are ‘growing confident that an agreement will be reached very soon after a positive round of talks’.
If Andrea Berta manages to tie Nwaneri down to a new deal — after already extending Myles Lewis-Skelly’s contract — Arsenal’s future will look a lot brighter than it already is.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are right to keep tabs on Nwaneri, but as things stand, it is very unlikely that they will be able to sign him.
