Arsenal are closing in on a blockbuster double swoop, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano reporting that the Gunners are now on the verge of landing a new striker and defender.
Despite previous reports suggesting talks had cooled, Romano has confirmed that negotiations between Arsenal and Sporting for Viktor Gyökeres “were never off,” with fresh contacts taking place today. Crucially, the Swedish striker has made it clear he only wants a move to Arsenal, helping push the deal towards a conclusion.
Mikel Arteta’s side are now ready to get closer to Sporting’s demands of €70million plus €10million in potential add-ons, a significant commitment that underlines how highly they rate the 27-year-old frontman. The price feels fair, too, with transfermarkt valuing him at €75million.
According to Ben Jacobs, another solid source, Arsenal will pay just £55million for Viktor Gyokeres with a further potential £8million in add-ons. Viktor Gyokeres’ agent waived his £5.5million commission fee to get the deal done.
Gyökeres had a sensational season in Portugal, providing a dynamic, physical presence up front—something Arsenal’s current squad arguably lacks.
Alongside the Gyökeres pursuit, Arsenal are also planning to advance their move for 21-year-old centre-back Cristhian Mosquera next week. The young Spaniard has been a standout for Valencia, attracting interest across Europe, but Romano says Mosquera has made it clear he only wants to join Arsenal’s project.
A Spanish source has echoed this, reporting that “The Mosquera saga may be nearing its final days. After Valencia rejected the club’s latest offer of €14million, the English club is raising its price to try to convince Peter Lim to join Arteta’s team as soon as possible. Sources in England claim that the signing of the Valencian center-back is closer and could be finalised this week.”
This double move would represent a bold statement from Arteta and sporting director Andrea Berta, reinforcing both ends of the pitch with a clinical striker and one of Europe’s most promising young defenders.
With pre-season preparations already underway and the transfer window now open, Arsenal fans could be set for an exciting few weeks as the club aim to go one better than last season and finally reclaim the Premier League title.
