Arsenal have already spent over £70 million this summer and are poised to double that figure in the coming days, with major additions expected to both the first team and academy setup.
The Gunners have already secured the signings of Martin Zubimendi and Christian Norgaard to replace the departing midfield duo of Jorginho and Thomas Partey. In goal, Kepa Arrizabalaga has arrived to serve as deputy to David Raya, following Neto’s return to Bournemouth. But the biggest moves may yet be ahead.Arsenal have reached an agreement in principle with Sporting CP for prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres, with a base fee of £63.4 million agreed. Negotiations are ongoing over achievable add-ons and the structure of payments, but optimism is growing that the Swedish international will be unveiled soon. Gyökeres has already agreed personal terms and is expected to sign a five-year contract. The club has also reportedly agreed a £52 million deal with Chelsea to sign winger Noni Madueke, another high-profile addition that underlines Arsenal’s intent to bolster their attacking options.
Meanwhile, the Gunners are closing in on the signing of Valencia centre-back Cristhian Mosquera. The 21-year-old Spaniard is set to arrive in a deal worth less than his €20 million (£17.4m) release clause. Arsenal are also continuing to monitor Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, with a move for the England international still possible before the transfer window closes. At academy level, Arsenal have moved swiftly to secure future talent. The club has agreed a deal worth £200,000 with League Two side Salford City for 17-year-old striker Will Wright, according to Mail Sport. Personal terms are currently being negotiated with the highly-rated forward, who was also attracting interest from Liverpool and Manchester City.
Wright, a 6ft 3in striker from Preston, scored over 50 goals for Salford’s academy and B team last season. His pre-season form, including a brace against FC United of Manchester and a goal against York City has further raised his profile. He made his senior debut against Manchester City in the FA Cup earlier this year and has since made four appearances under Salford boss Karl RobinsonSpeaking after his standout pre-season showing, Wright said: “I feel great, I’m ready. For all of us, it’s a fantastic opportunity.” Having come through grassroots clubs Euxton Villa and Fylde before joining Salford, Wright is widely regarded as one of the most promising young forwards in the country.
His signing reflects Arsenal’s wider strategy under academy manager Per Mertesacker, who is leading an aggressive recruitment drive to strengthen the U18s, U21s, and UEFA Youth League squads. Backed by a dedicated youth transfer budget, the club is focused on attracting top-tier young talent to Hale End.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool have since withdrawn their interest in Wright, leaving Arsenal as frontrunners to complete the deal.
While personal terms are yet to be finalised, the Gunners are confident Wright will join the academy setup in the coming weeks, adding to a busy and ambitious summer of recruitment at all levels of the club.
