Arsenal are set to complete the signing of Viktor Gyökeres after reaching a total agreement with Sporting Lisbon. According to Sky Sports, the striker is expected to undergo a medical in Singapore, where the Gunners are currently based for their pre-season tour.
The deal is worth a reported £63.8 million, including a £55.1 million base fee and £8.7 million in performance-related bonuses. It brings an end to weeks of negotiations between the two clubs, with earlier discussions having stalled over the structure of the proposed add-ons.
Arsenal’s agreement with Sporting was reached earlier this week and signals the club’s continued intent to build a squad capable of challenging on all fronts in the 2025-26 season. With the transfer now entering its final stages, the plan is for Gyökeres to complete his medical while the team remains in Singapore, ensuring he can integrate into the group as soon as possible.
Gyökeres arrives off the back of a prolific two seasons with Sporting. He produced over 90 goals in that time and also contributed with assists and tireless pressing from the front, becoming one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.
Gyokeres topped the goal charts in Portugal last season and finished ahead of several big names across the continent. What will resonate most with fans is his confident response when asked to compare himself to elite strikers such as Harry Kane, Robert Lewandowski and Erling Haaland. Gyökeres declared he belongs at the same table, stating his ambition to maintain top-level performances year after year.
Once confirmed, Gyökeres will join a strong group of Arsenal forwards, including Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and new recruit Noni Madueke, amongst others. His profile as a physical, goalscoring No.9 is expected to offer something different in Mikel Arteta’s tactical setup.
This signing follows a summer in which the Gunners have already added Martin Zubimendi, Christian Nørgaard, Noni Madueke, and Kepa Arrizabalaga, with Sporting Director Andrea Berta overseeing the business. The signing of Cristhian Mosquera is also expected to be announced soon by the club.
