The 10 men of Liverpool made it seven points from a possible nine on Sunday by mounting a remarkable comeback to beat Newcastle 2-1. The result leaves the Reds fourth in the Premier League table, two points off Manchester City, which is now the only team with a 100 per cent record.
But how are the rest of Europe’s big leagues shaping up after the early going? Well, Bayern Munich is second in the Bundesliga, only trailing Union Berlin on goals scored, after Harry Kane marked his home debut with two goals in a 3-1 win over Augsburg.
In Spain, it’s Real Madrid that leads the way as the only side with three wins from three. That’s after the newest Galáctico, Jude Bellingham, continued his magnificent start with a late winner against Celta Vigo on Friday night.
AC Milan has a narrow edge over Napoli at the top of Serie A, meanwhile, following an emphatic 4-1 win against Torino on Saturday that saw new signing Christian Pulisic get on the scoresheet.
And finally, former Reds forward Takumi Minamino has fired Monaco to the summit of Ligue 1 with three goals and two assists in his first three matches.
Sadio Mané imitates Cristiano Ronaldo
Liverpool icon Sadio Mané scored twice on Friday night as Al Nassr thrashed Al Fateh 5-0 in the Saudi Pro League.
Mané netted the opener for Luis Castro’s side shortly before the half-hour mark and then bagged its fourth in the final 10 minutes, while Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick.
When the 31-year-old made it 4-0, he copied Ronaldo’s famous ‘Siu’ celebration, a reminder of his days at Anfield when he used to mimic Roberto Firmino.
PSG ready to bid for Liverpool ‘transfer target
PSG is poised to make a $27m (£21m/€25m) bid for PSV winger Johan Bakayoko this week, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.
The reigning French champion may face a tussle for his signature with a couple of Premier League clubs also keen. Everton ‘wants to get into the fight’, while Crystal Palace is ready to launch a move if Eberechi Eze leaves in the final days of the window.
PSV wants a minimum of $32m (£26m/€30m), plus bonuses, and any deal may have to wait until after it takes on Rangers in the second leg of its Champions League qualifying playoff this week.
