Premier League fans have voted Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres the most likely to be the top scorer next season.
The Gunners’ big transfer story this summer is that they have finally signed a striker after over two years of fans calling for them to add a number nine. Last season, many put Arsenal’s lack of silverware down to the fact that they didn’t have a target man.
Viktor Gyokeres joined for £64m from Sporting CP this summer, and he will now come in and look to compete with the likes of Erling Haaland and Mo Salah to the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season.
Last year, Gyokeres managed to score 54 goals in 52 games for Sporting, and Mikel Arteta will hope that his scoring record will translate to the Premier League.
Ahead of the new season, we decided to run a poll to six sets of Premier League fans (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Man United, Man City and West Ham), to determine who could be the top scorer in the Premier League next season.
Almost 4,000 votes were taken, and Gyokeres was voted as the most likely to win the Golden Boot next season, with a 32% vote share (1,228).
Interestingly, Gyokeres wasn’t the only player to beat out Mo Salah and Erling Haaland, as the fans also voted that Chelsea star Cole Palmer is the second most likely to be the top scorer. Palmer won a 27.25% of the vote with just over 1,000 votes.
Haaland was third with nearly 19%, ahead of Liverpool’s Salah (8.65%), who was the top scorer last year on 29 goals. The other three attackers, Bryan Mbeumo, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike all commanded less than 250 votes each.
Comparing the poll results to the current odds, the fans have more faith in Gyokeres than the bookmakers. The Arsenal striker was fourth in the odds at 7/1, behind Salah, Isak and Haaland, according to Oddschecker.
