AC Milan have already added one Swiss National Team player to their ranks this summer in Ardon Jashari, and they may add another.
This summer, Milan have looked at positions that need strengthening and have looked to do exactly that. The midfield looks a complete article, and the defence is only one signing away from being in the same boat.
Finding the right profile has been a challenge, but it seems increasingly likely that Zachary Athekame will be the signing made for the position, with reports suggesting today that he has handed in a transfer request.
He is not the first target, of course. However, the Swiss defender brings ‘an interesting profile’ according to the National Team coach Murat Yakin, who spoke to Gazzetta dello Sport recently, via MilanPress.
“He’s a very interesting profile, especially considering his age: he’s not even 21 yet. I haven’t coached him with the senior national team yet, but I’ve obviously followed him closely both with his club and in our youth teams, where he’s had a very positive growth.
“Despite being still young, he’s already accumulated a fair amount of experience in the Champions League. And he has great energy and tactical intelligence, as well.”
It will be interesting to see how he will fit into the defence in the long term, especially with him being only slightly older than Alex Jimenez.
