Arsenal have ambitions to complete late transfer business this summer as the start of the Premier League closes in. Having already brought in six players to the squad, spending close to £200million, there is still yet more desire to complete some late moves.
Following the 3-0 victory over Athletic Club, Mikel Arteta was asked in the post-match press conference what the status of the club’s market activity was. The Spaniard stopped short of guaranteeing any more deals, but admittedly, Arsenal would still be aware of the potential for more deals.
“Let’s see what happens in terms of where the squad is in the next few weeks,” he said. “But we are actively looking at options, as well, there are a few players maybe that they have to leave as well, so we’ll be open to see what happens.”
It is these potential outgoings which prove the crux of the hope of a late reinforcement push. The urgency to get players out has reached a new height this summer after Tottenham Hotspur stepped up their pursuit of Eberechi Eze.
Arsenal, meanwhile, are understood by football.london to be intent on moving players on. They wish to work comfortably within the bounds of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play restrictions, and therefore having not yet brought in more than £10million in sales this summer, need to make some moves.
The player who seems key to the club’s hopes of a third attacking signing appears to be Leandro Trossard. Despite having a contract offer from the club, it remains unsigned and points toward the more likely outcome of an exit from north London.
If Trossard is to be sold, then Arsenal would be under a pressure that borders on a necessity to sign a replacement. The question of who that would be is a very interesting one, because it is not guaranteed to be Eze.
Other players of known interest to Arsenal include Rodrygo and Anthony Gordon, but both are believed to be very expensive deals to do and therefore also unlikely. It is why there remains a strong chance that any final addition to the team could be that of a player not yet mentioned in the credible circles of links to the club.
