Sporting director Andrea Berta has already overseen an influx of new arrivals at Arsenal – players who can make a difference for Mikel Arteta.
And whilst the likes of Noni Madueke and Christian Norgaard should prevail as very clever additions for the Gunners, most eyes will be on Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyokeres in the early weeks of the season.
Arsenal, and he’s clearly benefitted from his early arrival from Real Sociedad.
And whilst Gyokeres had to wait a bit longer to complete his own move from Sporting CP, he’s also beginning to impress in N5.
That being said, ahead of Arsenal kicking off their Premier League season against Manchester United in the Premier League, Jurrien Timber has given his thoughts on Gyokeres’ arrival in particular.
Speaking in an interview with Arsenal, Timber said that Gyokeres was an ‘amazing guy’, a striker who was already settling in incredibly well.
And in tandem with Kai Havertz, Timber seemed convinced that Arsenal had a strikeforce which could lead the club to bigger and better things this season.
Asked about Gyokeres, Timber said: “He’s an amazing guy, amazing lad. He fits in great with the group, just as all the other new players do. I think they have all adapted really well, and Viktor has amazing qualities.
“I think together with Kai, you have two completely different strikers, which is a big threat to our opponents. He’s so quick, so strong, powerful, very clinical in front of the goal. He’s a great guy as well. I’m really happy with Viktor.”
Right now, there seems to be the feeling that it’s either Gyokeres or Havertz for Arsenal this season.
However, it really could be the case that Arteta chooses to play the duo in the same team.
Before he played as a striker last season, Havertz played as an eight and as a ten for Arsenal – roles he’ll likely occupy for Arsenal this season as well.
Havertz has looked effective in Martin Odegaard’s role in the right of the midfield three.
And unless Arsenal sign Rodrygo from Real Madrid or a different left winger, perhaps Havertz might even occasionally play as a left winger.
The German is incredibly versatile in forward positions, and he did play in wide roles towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign.
