Report: Marseille want to take back Milan midfielder Bennacer on loan

Marseille could be set to bring Milan midfielder Ismael Bennacer back to the club, just a couple of months after the Ligue 1 side refused their option to purchase the player permanently after his loan spell in France.

According to what has been reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport, via MilanNews.it, Roberto De Zerbi’s Marseille would like to bring the Algerian back to France on loan whilst the Rossoneri would prefer a permanent sale – in order to help finance any late additions to their own squad.

De Zerbi’s side lost their season opener on Friday evening, defeated 1-0 by Rennes thanks to a 91st minute winner from Ludovic Blas, and therefore are looking for reinforcements.

Milan’s Bennacer set for Marseille return?

Bennacer spent the second-half of last season on loan with the French club, with mild success. He played 12 times in Ligue 1 for the Olympiens, as they finished in second place, qualifying for the Champions League.

Whilst he did not play a starring role for the Ligue 1 side, he was reliable in the minutes he played and it is that consistency that De Zerbi sees as a useful trait for squad players.
