Arsenal could emerge as a potential destination for Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman before the transfer deadline, according to GIVEMESPORT correspondent Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners have had a busy summer transfer window with Mikel Arteta adding Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke, Cristhian Mosquera and Viktor Gyokeres to the squad after three consecutive runners-up finishes in the Premier League.
But a left-sided forward is also something that the club are keen on adding to their options before the transfer window closes on September 1st, and Lookman could now become a late option.
Lookman, who has been described as ‘world-class’ by BBC journalist John Bennett, looks set to leave the Serie A club this summer after a fall out with club chiefs, which even saw him hand in a formal transfer request.
Inter Milan had shown the most interest but pulled out of talks with Atalanta after they couldn’t find an agreement over a transfer fee, with Lookman’s current club preferring to sell the Nigerian abroad rather than to a domestic rival.
Lookman still wants to leave and while speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that Arsenal could become an option with Premier League sides attentive to the situation.
“The agents of Lookman always gave priority to Inter, but now, with Inter no longer being in the race, Premier League clubs could be attentive.
“So for example, let’s see what happens at Arsenal. Arsenal are very happy with the squad they have right now up front in terms of age. Probably, Lookman is not exactly the profile of player that Arsenal usually sign, but maybe if Trossard decides to leave in the final weeks, that could be an opportunity.
“So let’s see what’s going to happen. But Lookman could be an interesting name for these final weeks for Premier League clubs.”
Since this video was uploaded though, a move has seemingly become less likely after Leandro Trossard agreed a new contract at the Emirates Stadium, which has seen him be given a pay-rise but with no extension on his deal, which will continue to run until 2027.
It suggests that Arteta is very happy with the options he has and unless something changes, a move for Lookman seems unlikely, but it’s something to keep an eye on in the final two weeks of the window.
