Report: What Gyokeres signing does for Arsenal…see more

Matt Le Tissier has offered his thoughts on Arsenal’s squad for the 2025–2026 season, insisting that the club has now addressed the one major weakness that had been holding them back. Over the last three campaigns, Arsenal have consistently finished as runners-up in the title race, and it has been widely acknowledged by both supporters and neutral observers that the team lacked a prolific striker to complete their line-up.

Mikel Arteta’s side has now secured the signing of Viktor Gyökeres, a move that many believe eliminates any remaining excuses for not mounting a serious push for the title. Gyökeres arrives with a formidable reputation, having been among the most effective strikers in world football during his time at Sporting Club, where he proved almost impossible to contain across the past two seasons.

Gyokeres Brings the Final Piece

Although his first experience in the Premier League was challenging, Gyökeres has since gained valuable experience and maturity. His development abroad demonstrated his ability to dominate opposition defences, and his consistent record in front of goal is expected to translate into success in England. While he may not match the extraordinary scoring tallies he achieved in Portugal, his contribution should still provide Arsenal with the crucial extra goals that have been missing, potentially turning tight contests into victories and propelling the club towards more silverware.

The striker himself has expressed confidence that he will succeed in North London, and Le Tissier believes his arrival resolves the long-standing question surrounding Arsenal’s squad composition. Speaking to Football Insider, he explained, “Arsenal have been screaming out for a striker for a long time, so Gyokeres was a must-sign this summer for Arsenal. They had to sign a centre forward of some substance this summer. We’ve seen his goal-scoring record over the last couple of seasons, it’s been pretty impressive. I think Arsenal getting a decent centre forward in was key.”

With Gyökeres now leading the line, Arsenal enter the new season with renewed belief that they finally possess the firepower required to compete at the very highest level. The acquisition of a proven striker of this calibre may well transform their prospects, removing the doubts that have surrounded their attacking capabilities in recent years.

As Le Tissier suggested, the signing of Gyökeres provides Arsenal with the balance and strength they have been searching for, setting the stage for what could be their most decisive campaign under Arteta.
