Luka Modric has stressed a desire to win with AC Milan, who he believes are the perfect club for him to be at in the present moment.
Modric has rightly garnered huge praise since his arrival in the summer on a free transfer from Real Madrid. He has been placed quite literally in the centre of Massimiliano Allegri’s tactical plans, as the deepest midfielder in a 3-5-2 system, and he has continued to play at an elite level.
The recent game against Fiorentina is a brilliant example of this. Despite having no Adrien Rabiot next to him, the 40-year-old had 90% pass completion, four chances created, six tackles, six recoveries and six out of eight ground duels won.
Modric was a live guest in the TG1 studio this evening and he answered some questions in his time at Milan so far, including being a fan of the club and what certain individuals are like. MilanNews relayed his comments.
Why Milan?
“Playing for Milan is the best thing right now. I’m at a great and historic club: the team has great talent and the manager is a winner. It’s a long journey, but I have high expectations.”
What’s the aim?
“I came here to win. Returning to the Champions League is the minimum goal, but I hope to do more.”
You are a boyhood Milan fan…
“My idol, Boban, and I grew up with his legend. But also Paolo Maldini, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf…”
What is Serie A like?
“The level of Serie A is very high. In other major leagues there aren’t as many matches as here: Juve, Inter, Napoli, Lazio, Roma…”
And San Siro?
“The Bernabeu is special to me. I lived there for 13 years and experienced indescribable emotions. But San Siro is a stadium steeped in history: Ancelotti told me I’d love it; he’s one of the greatest.”
What is Luka Modric’s dream?
“I’ve already won everything, but my dream is to win with Milan, because when you never give up, anything can happen. Forza Milan, always.”
