Chelsea icon fumes as Manchester United sign Sofyan Amrabat

Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf cannot believe the Blues chose to sign Moises Caicedo over new Manchester United signing Sofyan Amrabat.

United got plenty of business done on transfer deadline day with three new signings arriving at Old Trafford.

Goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and left back Sergio Reguilon completed their moves to United after days of speculation.

There was one more deal to come though as United finally wrapped up the signing of Sofyan Amrabat.

Months of rumours, months of ‘will they or won’t they’ finally came to an end as Amrabat signed on the dotted line.

This one was rumbling all summer long but United have snapped up the Moroccan on loan with an option to buy.

Frank Leboeuf rages at Sofyan Amrabat to Manchester United

Other Premier League clubs had been linked with Amrabat over the summer but he

Reuniting with Erik ten Hag was so important to Amrabat having previously worked together at Utrecht in the Netherlands.

Amrabat has landed his move and whilst United fans are excited, others aren’t quite so pleased.

Former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf has told ESPN that he can’t believe the Blues didn’t make a move for Amrabat.

Chelsea instead splashed enormous money on Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia to help build a midfield around Enzo Fernandez.

Those moves haven’t impressed Leboeuf though as he believes that Chelsea should have instead signed Amrabat instead.

Leboeuf raged about Chelsea refusing to sign more experienced players like Amrabat, believing that he could have been a ‘bargain’ signing.

“I’m sorry but when I see those kinds of players going to Manchester United … I often talk about Chelsea trying to find experienced players in the middle of the park,” said Leboeuf. “Why didn’t they think about that guy? That guy would have been the perfect pair with Enzo Fernandez. Yeah, they got Caicedo, but for £100m! I see that guy on loan, when he could have been maybe bought for like £30million or £40million, that would have been a bargain!”

“He has proven his talent. Why don’t they think about those kinds of guys? He’s an experienced player. Why don’t Chelsea think of those kinds of players?” he added.

Amrabat deal just looks so good for United

That United have been able to take Amrabat on loan for a year is outstanding.

United needed another midfield player, somebody who could either cover for Casemiro or go into battle alongside the Brazilian.

Amrabat fits the bill perfectly, especially having already worked under Ten Hag.

Amrabat was a star of the World Cup with Morocco but it’s fair to say that he doesn’t always play to that level with Fiorentina.

That means United now have a chance to see Amrabat in Premier League action before jumping into a deal.

Compared to some of the prices for midfielders this summer, Amrabat looks like an absolute snip but the try-before-you-buy nature makes this just perfect.
