‘Salah over Ronaldo’ – Liverpool forward named in all-time Premier League XI ahead of two Man United icons

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is chasing further Premier League records this season

Darren Bent believes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has had a better Premier League career than Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Egyptian has netted 141 goals during his career in the English top-flight, 139 of which came wearing the red of Jurgen Klopp’s side. Salah has been one of the most important signings during the German’s tenure at Anfield and the figures have the 31-year-old among some of Liverpool’s best ever players.

Salah has already established himself in the record books as the Reds most prolific goalscorer in the Premier League, overtaking Steven Gerrard and Robbie Fowler last season – his brace in the 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United cemented his name in history at Anfield.

The attacker has two years remaining on his current Liverpool contract. Despite a positive start to the season, the first four games of the league campaign have been overshadowed by Saudi Arabian interest as Al-Ittihad pushed to end Salah’s career on Merseyside.

But with the Saudi Pro League transfer window shutting on Thursday night, Salah’s spell at Liverpool will continue as he looks to fire the Reds back into the Champions League.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Bent revealed how he would choose Salah over former United attacker Cristiano Ronaldo – opting to push the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to the left-hand side.

“He’s up there. I’ve said it before and if I was making my all-time Premier League 11, he’d be in it without a shadow of a doubt, that right-hand side,” he said.

“Ronaldo on the left, Salah on the right, Thierry [Henry] down the middle. Salah’s had a better Premier League career, I’d rather have Salah on the right and Ronaldo on the left. Giggs is not getting in there.

“I’m taking Salah over Ronaldo [on the right] and shifting Ronaldo [to the left]. In my opinion, he [Salah] would be in my all-time 11, how consistent he’s been, stats-wise I think he’s been fantastic.

“He is phenomenal Salah, people questioned him, hammered him and said he’d lost it, he scored 30 goals in all comps [competitions]. We laud Rashford for getting 30 but throw shade at Salah and you think ‘hold on’.”

“He got 19 Premier League goals. It’s difficult because I’m not a Liverpool fan [to rank Salah among the greats] but in recent times, he’d have to be one of their greatest and I know you’ve got King Kenny, Ian Rush, Souness but for me, recent times he is one of the best because of the consistency every single season.”
