According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are on the verge of landing Vuskovic, who had been linked to the Blues earlier this year.
“Tottenham are on the verge of signing Croatian CB top talent Luka Vuskovic!” the Italian journalist shared on Twitter.
Back in April, the Daily Mail reported that Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United and Manchester City had all scouted Vuskovic, who is thought to be valued at £12m.
However, it is Tottenham who appear to have won the race for his signature.
Chelsea look good in central defence
At just 16 years of age, perhaps Vuskovic will develop into a top centre-half one day. With the likes of Chelsea, City and Tottenham all having him on their radar, it is clear that he has talent.
However, the Blues already have a crop of young and capable centre-backs. Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile are all under the age of 23.
Of course, while the trio are young, they are still quite a few years older than Vuskovic. Nevertheless, they still offer Chelsea long-term security in the central defensive positions while being able to make an impact now.
The Blues are probably better off putting their resources into attackers and attackers who can make a difference at this very moment.
Going forward, Chelsea have not been good enough, managing to score just 38 goals in the Premier League last term.
It is certainly not an issue Vuskovic solves, so supporters should not be losing any sleep over his imminent switch to Tottenham.
