The international break is almost over as Liverpool return to action at Wolves this weekend. We’ll have all the injury news ahead of that game.

There are also transfer rumours about Inter Milan’s Nicolo Barella and of course, Mohamed Salah continues to be linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, we’ll have all the latest on his future.

Elliott in action

Harvey Elliott is currently in action for England under-21s as they take on Luxembourg in a qualifying match for the 2025 U21s European Championship.

Currently approaching the half-time point, the scoreline remains 0-0.

Elmas interest

Liverpool were reportedly keen on signing Napoli midfielder Eljif Elmas this summer.

The Reds strengthened their midfield department by bringing Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch to the club, having been linked with a whole host of names.

One of those who was not mentioned was Elmas, who Corriere dello Sport stated was someone Liverpool ‘wanted’, adding the Reds ‘would have gone so far as to offer €30million (£25m) for his services.

The article adds RB Leipzig were also interested, though Napoli were ‘firm and decisive’ by rejecting such advances.

Trent Kone-Doherty opens up on Liverpool life

Talented Liverpool youngster Trent Kone-Doherty has opened up on the sacrifices he’s made to make it to Liverpool.

The 17-year-old forward made the move to Liverpool last summer from League of Ireland side Derry City and enjoyed an impressive maiden campaign in the Premier League North and later the UEFA Youth League.

However, the Republic of Ireland youth international’s debut campaign ended prematurely as an ankle injury sustained during a defeat at Manchester City in February resulted in him missing the final months of the season.

But despite the setback, Kone-Doherty’s impressive form for the under-18s was rewarded with a summer promotion to train with Liverpool’s first team where he rubbed shoulders with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz.

Speaking to Liverpool.com, Kone-Doherty, who originates from the county of Derry in Northern Ireland, explained how his journey to Anfield was punctuated with hardships as he was tasked with leaving his hometown shortly after his 17th birthday.

“It was something I knew that was going to happen,” said Kone-Doherty, discussing his 2022 move to Liverpool. “My dad said to me, ‘If you want to be a footballer, you have to make sacrifices.’ I knew it was a good sacrifice but I’m happy I did it.

“I’ve really enjoyed it and I think it’s been a good first year. At the start it was quite tough, obviously, leaving my friends and family. But I think now I’m used to it and I like the change. Obviously Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in Europe, so it’s still amazing to pull on the shirt.”
